should try cantonese if you wanna learn japanese later becuz the cantonese pronunciation of chinese characters are more related to onnyomi of kanji in japanese due to its more archaic pronunciation. if there's any possibility you can also try hokien and wu chinese which are two archaic chinese languages from which japanese and korean imported many chinese words into their vocabulary :D
